Gilt framed, glazed and mounted, Victorian watercolour of flowers in a vase, signed by Nelly H. Yeats.

Nelly Hartnell Yeats (1866 - 1927)

Nelly was born in Worcester in 1866 and was the youngest daughter of artist George Paterson Yeats. She was a flower painter, living in Great Malvern, and exhibited (1887 - 1904) with the Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham, and the Royal Academy. It is probable that Nelly was taught by her talented father and occupied herself by painting at home. When her father died, her mother, Mary, took in boarders at Lansdowne House, which had 15 rooms, and when Mary died in 1908, Nelly in turn became a boarding house keeper. She may have continued to paint in her spare time. Nelly died at Malvern in 1927 aged 61 years.
