Victorian framed, glazed and mounted watercolour of ‘Sweet Peas in a Vase’ signed by Maude Ashley West (1858 - 1943).

Noted, British painter in watercolours and illustrator of landscapes, garden and flower studies. She studied art of the Bloomsbury School in Queens Square, Lodon and taught for a while at Plymouth High School for Girls, but gave it up to concentrate on painting. She also produced designs for greeting cards and illustrated a book, “Through Woodland and Meadow” (1891). Maud exhibited at the Royal Academy (1901 - 1916) and at the Society for Women Artists (1882 - 1906). She lived for many years in Tunbridge Wells, Kent with her elder sister Alice.
