Circa 1910 Oak Globe Wernicke Bookcase also known as a Barrister’s Bookcase.

It has four waterfall stacking sections, each with a ‘life up and slide’ glass front and metal strap bindings to the side. There is also a top cornice and it stands on a shaped plinth.

In order to disassemble or transport, lift each section off, one at a time, starting with the top cornice. Fine quality.

The Globe Wernicke Bookcase

The Globe Wernicke company was formed in 1899 and quickly established factories in the United States, United Kingdom, France and Germany. Renowned for their high quality, the stacking or ‘elastic’ modular bookcases were patented and usually made in oak, walnut or mahogany. Today these glass-fronted bookcases are collectable, desirable and, most importantly, usable antiques.
